We are a popular science center
We are passionate about making science fun for you!
Since March 9, 1888, Vitensenteret in Trondheim has worked to increase interest in and understanding of STEM subjects among children and young people of all ages. We are a non-profit foundation with a clear goal: to inspire curiosity, a sense of achievement, and joy through STEM, science, and creative activities.
We want to motivate children and young people to pursue studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Our unique identity lies in being an arena at the intersection of formal and informal learning - bridging the gap between school and leisure, experience and professional life.
Our Goal
Our goal is to spark curiosity and a love of learning within STEM—among both the young and the young at heart.
We believe in learning through experience, play, and active participation. At Vitensenteret, you are encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and discover something new - together.
Here, everyone is an explorer.
Expertise and Engagement
Our team at Vitensenteret possesses high expertise in pedagogy, maker spaces, exhibition production, interactive exhibits, events, and new media. Together, we work to ensure that as many people as possible have fun, engaging, and meaningful experiences with STEM and technology.
We achieve this through:
- Our interactive exhibition
- Activities, workshops, and science shows
- Educational programs at Vitensenteret as well as outreach at schools throughout the Trondheim region
- Digital outreach and content on social media

Part of a National Science Center Network
Vitensenteret in Trondheim is one of several regional science centers in Norway and receives state funding for its operations through a dedicated allocation in the national budget. This grant is intended to support the development of science centers as a resource for both the school system and the general public.
The primary goal of the science centers is to motivate more children and young people to pursue STEM fields. However, they also fulfill an important social mission: strengthening the understanding of natural science and technology across the entire population. Research shows that visiting a science center can play a significant role in future educational and career choices, which is why the centers actively work to be a natural link in the educational chain.
